Sometimes the normal reaction to everyday life events can cause your body to go into the stress response. 


Your body is designed to tense up for survival when it feels threatened or in danger, It does this to prepare you for running or fighting an attacker. 


The human body is an incredible organism which is designed to survive and keep going.


At a deep ancient level in the brain, every day stress can be perceived as danger, so the body does what it does best and goes into survival mode, the stress response. 


You tense up, ready to spring into action if needed. 

You start to curl into a ball to protect the organs on the front of the body.


Your heart rate speeds up and your breathing becomes fast and shallow, and your system floods with adrenaline and cortisol.


The tension is usually held around the chest area or lower back and shoulders.


Your body switches offline any peripheral systems not needed for survival, such as digestion, circulation to hands and feet, reproductive system. 


These systems stop working properly because your body is trying to conserve  that  energy  because it's  needed to fight or run away. 


Is this your experience? 


Now, if you were in actual danger you might be able to fight or run away, therefore discharging that fight flight tension, and switching the rest of the body’s systems back online. 


However, sometimes we are unable to discharge the tension because it’s too dangerous to run or fight, so we shut down completely, wanting to hide away; or it’s ‘just’ everyday stress, at work for example. 


So it's not appropriate to run away or fight your boss or colleagues, and therefore the tension remains stuck in the body causing you pain and discomfort. 


The human body was never designed to hold onto this stress response. 


It’s supposed to be a temporary thing 


We are supposed to either run or fight or do something else to discharge the tension. 


We were  never supposed to stay in that shut down hide away state for a long time either.


Unfortunately, modern life doesn’t work like that, you’re always on the go, busy busy, never finding time to stop and rest. 


You’re running on adrenaline and your body goes into the stress response and then has no way of discharging that tension, so you just hold onto it, causing all kinds of problems in the body.


Does this resonate? 


Holding onto tension for a long time can leave you feeling weighed down by the stresses and challenges of daily living, slowly draining your joy and vitality, and leading to long lasting illness and pain.


Your body feels wound up like a coiled spring, constantly on the edge of snapping. And you feel like you’re gripping so tightly to stop everything from falling apart.  


Stress and tension and the pain that comes with it can take over your life if you let it.  


This feels like a constant, there in the background, a reminder of the stresses in your life.  


This may manifest as pain in your back or shoulders and neck. Or headaches and migraines.


Maybe you wake up in the morning and you ache, you sit for a while and your back hurts, walking helps a bit but during a busy day that’s not always possible. And too much walking hurts somewhere else.


Sometimes you wake up in the night in pain. You just can’t get comfortable, and it’s impossible to get back to sleep, mind racing, thoughts circling.


You spend your day hunched over a computer, and that body position sends "danger"  signals to your brain, sending it into the stress response - it's a vicious cycle. 


It's really starting to impact your life. 


Your digestion doesn’t work properly, your hands and feet are always cold, your immune system doesn’t work as it should, so you catch everything that’s going round, and you’re just so tired all the time.


Does this sound familiar?  


You’ve been told to avoid stress but stress seems to be attached to your life.

You struggle to concentrate at work. You feel like the real you is trapped somewhere inside a malfunctioning body.


Are you sick of just putting up with it and putting on a brave face?

Other animals have a built in mechanism to release  tension and stress. 


Mammals shake, it discharges the fight flight energy if they haven’t been able to run or fight. 


Look at what a dog does when it's scared. 


Well, humans have this capacity too. 


It's an ancient, inbuilt mechanism designed specifically to release that tension and bring your body back to equilibrium. 


I believe everyone carries a light within them, a unique brilliance waiting to shine. Yet life’s experiences can dim that light, leaving us feeling  tense, deflated, stressed, and disconnected from ourselves.

Trauma release Exercises 

As one of a handful of certified TRE providers in Manchester, I offer one-to-one TRE sessions  in person and online.


TRE is a series of simple, guided exercises designed to activate the body’s natural shaking mechanism. 


This gentle, yet powerful process helps release stored tension, stress and unresolved trauma, held within the body.


You can learn TRE in just three to five sessions, then you have this powerful practice to support the rest of your  life  - no need to pay for more unless you choose to. 

Once it's learned and you feel confident with what you are doing It's yours, for life!.

Yoga Therapy and one to one classes   

Taking  a traditional holistic approach to the whole person, Yoga therapy uses the tools of yoga, such as postures (asanas), (pranayama) meditation, and lifestyle guidance, to support mental, and emotional health.


Each session is personalised and tailored to your specific needs, and  complements medical or psychological treatments.


There are no handstands or acrobatics. 

There are no extreme breathwork practices.

Just simple breathing and gentle movement, coupled with positive affirmations and intentions which help you to bring the joy and peace back into your life.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic structured style of yoga that synchronizes breath  with a progressive series of postures to create internal heat, build strength, increase flexibility, and focus the mind.


Taught as  a self practice, Students learn the sequence gradually, receiving new postures only when they’re ready. This ‘drip-fed’ approach allows each practitioner to build strength, stamina, flexibility, and confidence steadily and safely, progressing at a pace that suits their own body.


I am Authorised by Manju Jois to teach both Primary and intermediate series. 

I teach Mysore style Ashtanga  in Manchester in a group setting but if you wanted to have individual teacher input , for example if you are pregnant or recovering from injury, I also teach on a one to one basis so that you can progress on your own.
